The ability of bacillus subtilis isolates to control rapeseed sclerotinia rot compared with the effects of trichoderma harzianum and benomyl fungicide in Iran mountain region

The ability of nine isolates of Bacillus subtilis which had been isolated from petals of rapeseed plants and soils of rapeseed field were compared to one Trichoderma harzianum isolate and 2 part  per thousand benomyl solution to control rapeseed sclerotia rot. In the experiment seed of Talaye variety were planted in pots of 15 cm diameter and ofter seedling emergence they were thinned to one seedling. The controls were treated with 108/ml bacterial suspension,a 107/ml of spores of the antagonist fungus and with a 2 parts per thousand benomyl solution applied at two different times. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the biological treatments. The greatest reduction in lesion diameter occurred with the three treatments, B.subtilis B4 , B.subtilis  B14 and T.harzianum. There was no significant differece between these three treatments and application at the same time as the pathogen gave greatest effect. Comparing the benomyl effect with that of biological agents, it had significantly superior effect. The position of the leaf on the plant had not significant effect on lesion size.
